(Christine)

      "Hey," she says, "you're French aren't you? Long way  from home.
Business or are you a Gothamite now, too?"
Realising that  she may well now appear vulgarly inquisitive to the Society
Belle and  possibly also rude, she adds
hastily,  "I mean, I am a recent import here too.  From the West Coast.
Been here about a week. On business but
I think I'll be staying."

     "It kinda gets to you. Gets under your skin.  Gotham, I mean,"
she finishes
lamely.


 (Jack)

     Jack looks at Christine, then at Simone, then repeats the gesture a few
more times.  Finally, he thrusts a
hand - the one that had been bleeding only minutes before -  toward the
Frenchwoman.  "Jack Emerson.
Very pleased to make your acquaintance.  You're really fucking gorgeous, did
you know that?  There are a
number of very nice looking women in Gotham, but I'm not sure how many are
French."

(Simone)

     Simone pauses for a moment, then actually chuckles.  "Oui.  Paris,
actually."

(Christine)

     Christine gives a spurt of laughter, hastily and badly disguised as a
cough.  Man, and she thought *her* high society
manners were crap!  She elbows Jack in the ribs.   "Excuse my friend," she
says, grinning weakly at Simone. "He's
new to Planet Earth."  Not that Jack is wrong.  The woman *is* fucking
gorgeous.  And French.

     Christine wavers forward slightly, sticks out her hand.  "Christine
McAbee, Legal Ser . . " Christine breaks off.
Autopilot.  Idiot.  "That is, formerly of Legal Services, Seattle," she
corrects herself with exaggerated care.

(Simone)

     "I am pleased to make your acquaintance.  Simone Olivie Le'Wroth."
Still smiling and without hesitation, she took the woman's offered hand, but
first Simone warmed her own flesh so as not to startle the Mage with the
chill of dead- there was no need to break the Masquerade after all.  "I am
here on business but I may stay longer.  The nights are so lovely here, are
they not?"
