Christine gives a spurt of laughter, hastily and badly disguised as a  
cough. Man, and she thought *her* high society manners were crap! She  
elbows Jack in the ribs.

"Excuse my friend," she says, grinning weakly at Simone. "He's new to  
Planet Earth."

Not that Jack is wrong. The woman *is* fucking gorgeous. And French.

Christine wavers forward slightly, sticks out her hand.

"Christine McAbee, Legal Ser . . " Christine breaks off. Autopilot.  
Idiot. "That is, formerly of Legal Services, Seattle," she corrects  
herself with exaggerated care.
