Jack, Christine, Simone Unknown, Mage, Vampire
"I have no fucking clue. Not enough evidence to support the theory.
Further experimenting is in order. Let's go, missy."
Timing is everything. If the man had fallen a moment later, Simone
would have missed the entire display having reentered the party once more,
never the wiser. However, this was not the case. She saw it all. She
heard it all. These two were no ordinary kine.
As their drama unfolded, she inspected them with Auspex, something she
had opted not to do prior... and she was glad she did. The woman radiated a
brilliant array of color- not kindred as Simone had already surmised- a
robust orange shot through with a flickering, sickly yellow, that changed to
a mottled dark blue as the event progressed. The entirety was suffused by
rich, rose colored sparkles... The wave of color from the woman was
staggering, almost blinding. Simone was unused to this level of emotional
aura and it caused her to blink several times. She finally had to turn her
sight away, to the man instead.
The difference of his aura was not only amazing to her but, as
something she'd never witnessed before, wholly unique- the fact that the
color pulsed weakly about him, like the flames of a dying fire that simply
refuse to snuff out no matter what, the colors themselves being almost
inconsequential. What in heaven and on earth could this creature be? Not
human or kine, that was for sure. She mentally scrolled through the various
patterns taught to her by her sire so long ago. Lupus Garou? Not
remotely. Not of the Faerie-blood either, Seelie or Unseelie. Nor was he
one of those undead husks from the ancient middle east- what were they
called again? She couldn't remember. Not bane-infected nor skin-ridden by
a ghost... rare but not unknown to happen.
Simone suddenly realized they were both moving her way. She stepped aside
quietly to give them plenty of room in case more stumbling about ensued,
watching them both thoughtfully. Given her concentration toward their
auras, she only caught bits and pieces of their actual conversation, but she
she'd heard was fascinating. The woman was a Mage, which explained the
sparkles in her aura though not the hue. The man was... something else.
She was determined to find out what, however, this much Simone knew- he
lived once before and the memory of it was painfully relived just now. And
there was a symbol of some sort etched in his palm. She hadn't been close
enough to see it but the scent of blood was palatable even from her
distance. Kine blood, yet he was much more than that. This much she knew.
As they passed her, Simone thought for a moment that the women spied her
standing nearly but that couldn't be possible. It was a rare kindred who
saw through Obfuscation. Kine, Mage or not, could not break the veil.
And so she let them pass until the woman hazily remarked: "Hey, I could have
sworn I saw... someone else out here..."
Simone froze, her mind trying to absorb the concept of her being seen. They
were still outside on the veranda. Compared to the bright interior, they
were in the deeper shadows of the porch. This and the couple still reeked
of drink. And the man, well, he was facing away from Simone... she could
still save the situation and they wouldn't be the wiser. Simone dropped
the veil. She simply stood there as if she'd been taking in some fresh air,
a momentary break from the socializing within.
Simone smiled and graciously nodded to Christine, as one would to any
stranger you passed during a nightly walk. Yet she considered them both.
