Breakfast with Abby proved to be wonderful.  The conversation flowed as freely as the wine, but eventually the meal ended and it became clear it was time to go.  John paid the check, again tipping the waiter generously, and then escorted her to a nearby hotel.
Finding a mirror was easy.  Again, he removed an amulet carved into the shape of a key with Latin writing on it.  Whispering in Latin, he passed the amulet of the surface of the mirror.  The glass seemed to grow less solid as he spoke, eventually resembling a pool of water that refused to pour out onto the floor.
Hand in hand, they stepped through the mirror.

What was the world on the other side?  John didn’t know.  The roads connected to places in heaven and hell, angels and umbrood, the Underworld, the Umbra, the High Umbra.  Some sorcerers whispered that by traveling far enough one could find their way into the realms of dreams, and then beyond in uncharted lands that existed as ideas in the alien minds of unspeakable beings.
Their travels along the road were for the most part uneventful.  It wasn’t until the two of them were nearing Gotham that something happened.
