(Jack)
Jack smiled and nodded politely. “Uhm...must be
interesting work.” He’d never owned anything of any
great age or worth. In fact, he’d never really
‘owned’ anything. Akril had provided the bare
minimum, the daily requirements, doling them out as he
saw fit. The Khan, on the other hand, had countless
treasures, some of museum quality, Jack reckoned.
Would be nice to find out what they were worth. Would
be much nicer to cash them in.

Even better? To find out exactly what those magical
trinkets could do in the right hands. “Yeah, dream
on, arsehole...”, Jack reminded himself silently that
to walk back into Akril’s lair was the same as
suicide.

[Aurora]
As Sandra leaves Aurora breaths a sigh of relief and
then turns to
Jack, "I didn't expect to see you up and about so
soon. Did Christine
come with you?"

With that, she also downs one of the drinks the server
brings over and
blinks rapidly, shudders, and hiccups. Her face turns
red.

"Excuse me..."

[Jack)
As he snagged one more alcoholic beverage from the
passing waiter, Jack snickers. “No worries. I’m on
the fast-track to being shit-faced myself.”

He takes a deep breath. “Yeah, well. This has been a
night filled with the unexpected, hasn’t it? There I
was at the Temple, thinking it’d be another week
before I was up and about when these two magi show up
and do their stuff. Next thing I know, I’m feeling
like a million bucks and ready to paint the town red.
Christine and I make plans to hit this party first,
and then engage in some serious bar hopping. We’re in
the taxi, on our way here, and - bam! She has the cab
pull over and she says she has to run off and take
care of something. Real urgent, it was. Couldn’t
stop to explain, but says I should go on without her
and she’d catch up later.”

Jack takes a large gulp of his drink, vaguely aware
that his consonants are beginning to slide into one
another.

“So...here I am. Solo.”

Another long drag of his cigarette, the smoke exhaled
with an accompanying whisper.

“Hope she’s okay.”
