Columbine, Maurice
Ravnoses, Serpent
Their own private piece of the bar at Club Harlequin
"I have spoken with Ventrue who believe they are the Clan who holds the
truth. And Brujah too, Malkavians and Assamites claim they were put here
to be the last foil againstthe other 12. The Nosferatu claim thier
founder is the leader of these mosnters, while the Tzimisce believe only
they are equiped witht he ability to transcend the chains. Personally I
think they are all big fat liars and our founder was the worst of the
lot. Lies are a tool to teach when lies are what the world is made of.
With all respect, I expect even half of what you believe is a lie, a
story to tell so the awful truth does not break your mind asunder. That
does not mean it is of no perpuse though."
Maurice mused again of his 'vision quest'. Of the enormous being he had
perceived. Of the serpent that would have consumed him, would have
broken him completely, if it had drawn nearer. Had it been the truth,
whose presence alone did make any conception of something resembling a
mind laughable at best?
Her eyes travelled the length of the wall behind him, as he watched thew
Harlequin rise and walk behind her.
"You fight to open the eyes of those within the lie, we fight to break
the lie wide open, we both chip away at the lie in our own way. But if
you suceed and free those within the lie, then we suceed in destroying
it entirely, we have become foes. We fight for the same cause yet our
Dogma stands in the way, stands to drive us apart. If we choose to
follow the words of our forebares, we are at odds. That Dogma, that
tradition and the truths we believe to be our secrets are now revealed
as tools of our jailors. Don't you think?"
Maurice watched the two ancient vampires before him. Were they traitors
to their cause? The ultimate rebels? Not only working against the lie,
but also against the one who was responsible for them even noticing the
truth? He thought about dogma. About what he had told Columbine. It had
been the dogma of the Followers of Set, those that followed the founder,
whose goal was not only to free the world of the lie and the Aeons, but
also to replace them with himself. It was convenient for the Children of
Damballah to hide inside the larger Clan. At least to the eyes of the
outsiders. They should think, that the Children were just a strange
offshot of the Egyptian fetishists. In truth, the Children of Damballah
were rebels of a kind, too. They rejected the ancestor, instead, they
followed the real serpent, not the pale shadow of it walking the earth,
like their root Clan did.
What had Papa Saturday told him, when the talk came to those they broke
away from? Yes, the others, those that followed Set, the Egyptian
Serpent God, and the alpha of the Clan, fought against the lie, but
their ultimate aim was to place Set in place of those that jailed
reality now. He came and taught the Yorubas and the other West African
tribes of his truth. But these people, they knew ceratin truths already.
They knew of the Serpent. The real one, not the man walking in the
night. They took his teachings and used it to get a better understanding
of their faith. And he took some of them, brought them into the night.
But those didn't become Followers of Set, but instead chose to use his
wisdom, but not submit to him. They became the first Children of
Damballah. And with the slavers, they were brought to the Carribean and
the faith took root there. Always adapting, always expanding. With
knowledge of things that others only dreamed about.
Like these two vampires. All they talked about were the vampires, their
ancestors, their founders. They were blind to the world beyond the
world. To the world of Les Invisbles, to the world of the loas. To the
places were the real fight was waged and to which the fight in this
world was a mere shadow. But how do you destroy the prison, if you can't
see beyond it?
Then, there was something that bugged him about the Harlequin's words
[OOC: I assume the last statement was made by Harle. If not just replace
his name with Columbine ;) ].
"Ssere iss ssomessing not clear about your sstatement. We fight for sse
ssame causse. I agree to ssat, after 'earing what you 'ad to tell. But
'ow doess our dogmass clash? If we ssucceed in freeing ssosse wissin sse
lie, sse lie will ceasse to be. If you desstroy sse lie outright, it
ceassess to be. Where is sse differenss? 'ow doess making sse lie go
away enemiess out of uss? Unless you want to replasse sse lie wiss
ssomessing else. Anosser lie of your own making." He paused and then
added, his eyes narrowing. "Jusst like ssosse following sse one 'oo gave
uss our blood want to do."
