"Neither. I fear both Fortune and Fate are transitory
things, on a long enough time scale. Fortune changes
with the times. What's valuable today is junk
tomorrow. Whether it's the fall of a civilization or
changes in the economy, the end result is the same."
"And as for Fate, what Fate gives Fate also takes
away. It cannot be trusted in the long wrong to do
anything other than change. Never count on Fate, and
never consider it a friend."
He shrugged. "I'll settle for a little Happiness over
both."
