>Montoya led them from room to room, having to deal with the social niceties in each. However it was becoming clear that Ettienne was not in any of the usual haunts. 

As they walk, meeting with various personages, Mara begins to wonder if Etienne was even at the party at all.  He didn't seem to be anywhere that they looked.  

>Montoya stepped intot he garden, onto a secluded and private balcony at one side of the building only to tut that Ettienne was not here either.

Entering the garden, Mara realizes that she was once again alone with the Prince.  Was it a sign of his trust in her, or simply a matter of the situation at hand? 

>"You've had dealings with Melcom before you came to Gotham?" he suddenly asked out of the blue.

The words were like a surprise attack launched upon her.  Did he know, did he just suspect or was he just curious?  "I came from Seattle."  Mara replies.  "Melcom has holdings there too."  She turns away from the Prince and toward the balcony.  "My practice has brought me into conflict with them on more than a few occasions."  She decides to keep it neutral for the moment.  She grips the railing of the balcony tightly, but remembers not to squeeze too tightly and damage the structure.
