It wasn't hard to focus on crossing through the barrier; the 
spirit-world was home- although she didn't know nearly as much about it 
as the material world. Nez just knew that she dreamed about it, thought 
about it, and, when she was away too long, it called for her to return 
to it.

Nez fell forward as the barrier was breached. Her hands instinctively reached out and stopped her falling flat. 

As she pushed herself from the earth her senses told her something wasn't as she had expected it. Beneath her wasn't grass, or rock or sand. it was something else. Something Chitinous and shiney. 

All the wolves noticed it as soon as them came across, the strange auburn ground with its barnacled and slippery surface rising much less out of the roiling sea than the Island itself in the mundane world.

And the ocean was turbulant, bubbling and spitting like a pan about to boil. 

Poe made a curious sound in his craw as he looked at the city. From here it was a nightmare of steel strands and glistening webs all doused in acrid green mist that reached almost to the Island itself but not quite. Banks of the miasma drifted through the structures, leaving its filthy dampness on the strands of the Weavers nest. 

Between the wolves and the city was the Boat. Or the place where the boat was on the other side. here it was only visible from the things that gathered around it. In the water, walking on the surface and flitting in the air around it.

Banes. 

Dozens of them.

The chill that ran up thier spine would have been worse but they were not the foes of legend these Banes. Just little things with petty schreches and mewling cries in the night.
