Jack paid the driver and exited the cab.  After taking
a few more drags, he trudged up the expansive steps,
hoping the doorman wasn't going to boot his pathetic
arse down the same steps a few minutes later.

His heart was still racing.  He wondered where
Christine was.  He missed her already.

At the door Jack is surprised to see there are no overt signs of security or anyone to bar his entrance. He is greeted by a waiter carrying a tray of drinks and offered one of his own before the staff breezes away.

A middle aged couple walk past him, not even looking up, and crunch their way down the drive to a waiting car. Inside there is a group of young people talking in the main hallway, others on the stairs and scattered throughtout the portions of the huge house he can see.
