Maurice smiled inwardly. Memories are always there, even if you don't
remember them. Unless you got hit over the head and become an amnesiac
vegetable. Or, you become a loa and grow so much away from human
concerns that these trifle memories didn't matter anymore. A curiousity
you play with once in a while, but nothing more.

over his head. It was an amulet bound by a simple leather band. It was
round and made out of a brownish shimmering metal like bronze or brass.
On one side it was stamped with a vévé of Ogoun, the Warrior. On the
other side four letters had been carved into ist surface 'BTNR'.
"Mon coeur, I want to give you ssomessing." He waited until she turned
around. "If you ever should 'ave to walk into Darktown, wear ssiss
openly around your ssweet neck. Ssiss will make you ass ssafe ssere ass
if you would lie in your mossserss womb. And if you should 'ave a
problem, ssen ask for me or for ssomeone called Antoine Messcaline. Show
'im ssiss and 'e will 'elp you wiss anyssing."
He dangled the amulet in front of her.

Then he turned around to the entrance, waiting for the demon boy to
arrive.
