Mara decides to try to follow the man, but will stop before the temple starts to inflict pain on her.  She'd had quite enough of that for one night. After only a few steps she can tell the promise of more pain is all to constant and retreats again.

Mara's beast hisses its displeasure toward the temple, but Mara is able to beat it down, force it back into its hiding place.  She wasn't dressed for a destructive rampage, nor would it do for her to destroy the place where Christine now lived.  Then again, it might encourage her to return.  

Mara rejects the thought.  No, as much as she wanted to, she would not force Christine to work with her or be her lover again.  And so, she waits...
