Outside the Temple, Chinatown loomed. The serenity of the place itself
seemed a million miles away for Mara in such unfamiliar surroundings. But
the sounds of traffic and of industry remained at least a street away. The
sensations she had felt while approaching the Temple were still evident but
had died down. Whatever warded the Temple from her was satisfied that she
kept her distance.
