Tokyo

Carthephius entered Hiro's temple, looking around at
the many boxes being prepared to be moved into
storage. He took the wooden box and placed it on a
nearby crate, removing Hiro's skull.

"Where's the box?"

"On a shelf in the corner."

The Roman went over and found the box immediately. It
was larger than he had expected, and when he opened it
a smile crept across his lips. He removed the old
knife and held it into the light to examin it more
closely. In a swift move he unsheathed it, and the
blade seemed to almost dance magically in his hand.

"Impressive." The tone indicated Hiro clearly wasn't.
 "Are you done?"

"Not yet. I have some instructions for your retainer.
Michelle Stone is moving to Tokyo."

"Stone?"

"One of the dynasty's I maintain: Black, Stone, and
Grey."

"Stupid names. And why the hell do you keep three
dynasties anyway? You seem to always use the Black
surname."

Carthephius chuckled. "You never know when someone's
going to rise before an identity is ready. I've
loaned names out more than once. Besides, three
dynasties gives me the tools I need to make
investiments, hide myself in paperwork, and prepare
for the future. Besides, all of these people,
totaling several hundred, are all legally real. In
this age of electronic information, those are
commodities that are harder to come by."

Carthephius replaced Hiro's skull in its box, grabbed
his belongings, and went straight to a toy store to
buy a small child's wagon. He spent the remainder of
the day visiting various stores that most people were
smart enough to avoid.

In these places he bought supplies and rarities,
including two artifacts which put a dent in even his
considerable bank account. He knew of two
individuals, one a mage and the other possibly a
leech, interested in each.

By sunset he had a wagon full of goods and was on the
King's Highway, heading home.
