'Ouch!' Panic thinks. 'Although not undeserved.'

On his shoulder, unseen, the Familiar spirit sniggered.

He peers around Rachel at Shade and the bedroom beyond. Fighting the rising urge to run the hell away. Three women in one room. Three women he'd been involved with. Three women who probably didn't have him at the top of their Christmas card list right now. 

"Thanks!" he says. "Wanna do this in my rooms, away from people with big mouths and small brains?"

Shade's laissez-faire expression dissolved into petulant anger and she crossed her arms and deliberately didn't leave the room.
