Lady Marguerite heard the music coming from somewhere in her mansion and a broad smile lit up her face. The other elderly matrons she was gossiping with sighed or looked skywards as she rose quickly and waddled off on her high heels. On her way through the drawing room she reached into a crowd and pulled out a tall man with long dark hair.

Damien Carter had been edged into a corner by a certain crowd of people attracted either by his dark weathered skin or his reputation as an adventurer. A reputation he was loathe to boast about but about which Madam Sinclair was careful to mention everytime she introduced him to anyone new. Much as he hated being the 'exotic talking piece' at her parties, and as much as he hated having to don the tuxedo's she would hire him and have tailored to fit, this woman was an important investor in his fathers projects and the Museum and it was his responsibility to keep her cronies entertained.

Being dragged away from a crowd of those cronies mid-sentence was a mixed blessing. On one hand he was more than a little irritated that they cared less about the street kids of Cairo or the poisoned water they had to drink from the open sewers. If they kept pumping him for the secrets of the sands and ignoring the real problems he was afraid he might Rage. On the other hand, when he realised he was being dragged towards the impromptu dancefloor by Lady M herself, he realised what was expected of him and it filled him with terror.

Lady Marguerite dragged the rugged young explorer towards John and Abbey, Hiram and Sandra and joined the dance. Perhaps not as skilled or as graceful as the other women, she made up for that with shameless abandon. Watched from the stairwell by her amused husband, she flirted shamelessly with the adopted son of John Carter and forced him to dance far more suggestively than he was comfortable with.

In another room, Matt spotted the show and was in flood of laughter at Carter's situation. Ignoring the gathered suits of the Melcom board, who had fallen back to hushed conversation and scheming debate.
