Cash, Shales
Gangrel, Mortals
near GPD HQ, phone
After pulling a few blocks away from the Police HQ,
Cash pulled his cell from his pocket. Turning it on,
he saw that he had a message from the Shales. "This
is Simon Shales," the message began, "we've considered
your offer, could you meet us at the shop later? Call
us when you get the message." the message ended.
Cash looked at the message info, seeing that it had
been logged when he was in the Connolly. He dialed
the number for the shop and waited for the Shales to
pick up.
"Slippery when Wet, Phillip Shales here," the voice on
the phone answered. "Hey man, it's Cash, what's up,"
Cash said to Phillip Shales. "I can come over now, if
that's OK with you two." "That'd be great, we're both
here and ready to talk. See you in a few." The call
ended.
Cash went down to the docks and boarded the ferry,
another young man was piloting it, after paying his
fare, he waited while the ferry crossed to the island.
After arriving, he went directly to the shop.
Parking his bike out front this time, he walked right
in.
He heard a muffled "Be right out" from the back room,
and he saw the Gotham Herald on the counter, the
headline nearly froze his blood, "WHITE ROSE KILLER
STRIKES AGAIN" grabbing up the paper, he read the
report about the latest killing, maybe this was why
Connolly let him go so easily.
While he read the article, the Shales come out of the
back room, dragging a set of SCUBA tanks each. "When
we saw the paper, we figured that you couldn't have
killed that person and made it here when you did - at
least not blood-soaked, so we figured that you were
all right," Phillip said, gesturing to the paper.
Pulling up some stools and crates to the counter, the
three men sat down to discuss the offer. "We have
thought that the ferries needed work, but never
thought that we could afford to fix them," Simon said.
Now that Cash had the two of them together, he could
easily tell the difference between the brothers,
Phillip was taller by an inch or so, and Simon a bit
stockier, the hair styles and colors were almost the
same, as was their eye color. Their personalities
were similar, as was their voices. "As I said, I'm
willing to invest in exchange for a cut of the
profits, say 30%," Cash offered, the amount would
probably go up in the future, but let the brothers
have the majority stake in the business. The two
brothers looked at each other cautiously, then Phillip
shrugged, and said, "Why not?" Simon turned back to
Cash and said, "OK, we agree, do you want to put that
in writing, or is our word good enough?" Cash
considered it, if they double-crossed him, he had
other ways of dealing with them other than a
courtroom, so for now..."Your word is fine for now if
mine is. Get an estimate for the repairs to the
ferries and I'll see to getting some money into Gotham
to pay for it." With that, the three men shook hands
and Cash returned to the mainland.
Cash looked at his watch, he had time before his
meeting with Montoya and he wanted to make a good
first impression on the Prince, so he started looking
for a motel - not too expensive, but not too cheap
either. He finally settled for the Gotham Inn, not a
very original name, but it suited his needs. "I want
a room for the night," he told the desk clerk. "Room
16, sign the register and give me a credit card," the
clerk said, not looking up from the small TV he was
watching. After Cash did what he was asked, the clerk
gave him the key to the room.
Cash went to the room and brought in a somewhat
rumpled suit. Hanging it on the inside of the
bathroom door, he turned on the shower to warm up the
water. Stripping out of the clothes he had worn for
the last two days he entered the bathroom. Stepping
into the shower, he washed thoroughly, making sure
that all of the dirt and grime from his travels to
Gotham washed down the drain. Feeling refreshed, he
dried off, noting that most of the wrinkles in the
suit had steamed out during his shower. Pulling on
his briefs, Cash lay back on the bed, watching TV
while he waited to go to his meeting with the Prince,
thinking about what exactly he would say to him.
