The Harlequin, Maurice
Ravnos , Serpent
Their own private piece of the bar at Club Harlequin
Before he answered, the Harlequin peered over his shoulder at the new
arrival, or perhaps to his wife at the bar behind them, and then turned
back to Maurice.
Maurice snapped out of his reverie and looked at where the harlequin was
looking. He took notice of the new arrival and that she, as well as the
other girl, was tended by the three women. But he turned back to the
Harlequin as the Ravnos said:
"I had no idea members of the other Clans were capable of understanding
this!" he said genuinely. seeming to miss the slight he had
inadvertantly given. "We Ravnos had always known of this world of lies,
we have many names for it like Maya and Bujo. That the world was once a
place of freedom and beauty and fluid possibility until the Shimulo
bound it in chains. Those of us who have been granted enlightenment
consider ourselves to be the last hope for creation. Rebels with the
power to destroy the prison."
Maurice eyes got big, surprised by this response. According to the
zodiac, as it was taught by the Houngan, who equalled each sign with a
clan of vampire, noting their place amongst the servants and slaves of
the Aeons, the Ravnos were under the power of Aquarius. Which in itself,
explains a lot. But that they had such a deep insight into the true
state of reality surprised Maurice. Maybe they were actually fighting on
the same side. Had they become rebels to their master? Had they broken
the shackles that bound them? Could they be trusted? Probably not. This
could be a ploy to make him trust the Ravnos, a clever confidence game.
Or not so clever, as he himself had just revealed the right words to
tell to lure him in. He doubted that the Harlequin was so obvious. So he
had to tell the truth.
he stops, an expression of concern comes over his face as he wonders if
he has said too much. He knew he had a big moutha nd a loose tongue as
well as he knew the Setites ability to sweet talk others. But Maurice
had realy sounded like he was speaking from the heart, as unbeating as
it might be.
Maurice noticed the concern crossing the Ravnos face. Either, he was
afraid the ploy wouldn't work, or...
"You ought to talk to Columbine sometime. Perhaps we have more in
common that we realised?"
"You voisse sse ssoughtss ssat are on our mindss ssinsse sse Sserpent
revealed sse truss to sse firsst of our kind. Sse namess you usse are
different, but sse meaning sstayss sse ssame. Indeed, it could be we
'ave more in common ssan we ssought." He looked at the woman, who had
shmooched with the Harlequin before. "Maybe I ought to talk to 'er. She
iss sse older ssen? More verssed in sse lore of your kind?" He shivered
at the thought of her being even older than Harle. A thought occured to
him, as he reflected what he had seen before. "She brought you into sse
night, didn't she?" Not a new flame after all, he thought, but a very
old one, indeed.
