"Initiation?"  That was a word he hadn't brought up before now, and it concerned her.  What the hell was she getting into?  "What exactly does that entail?"   An expression of worry crosses her face, and she takes another step toward the door, but looks at Leon, trying to search for some sign of deception on his part.     (Sense Deception 2) 

"Acceptance of what we offer Hope." he smiles and seems to be genuinely willing to explain. "A pledge over a cup. A Tradition we hold sacred ... not unlike the communion perhaps, but in this case it has no overtones of faith, only of Fraternity and sororety. As I say, our roots are in a knightly order and there is no such thing as a group identity that doesn't have some kind of reminder or ceremony."

>"What we are looking for Hope is not another bent cop we have bought, but an equal. An ally in the fight!"

Looking into his eyes, Hope again feels the stirring of positive emotions.  She could trust what he was saying.   His employers, whoever they were, wanted her as an ally, not an adversary.  Even so, she was confused.  "I- I'm flattered, but I'm not sure I should accept."   

"Why not Hope? Do you doubt our motives ... or your own worth? I can vouche for both." Again the smile, disarming and genuine. "Can you really turn your back on us now Detective? Go back tot he mundane life you had before? With nobody to trust, the scorn of collegues who should owe you respect? A lonely apartment, no companions to call at four AM to say you've had a nightmare .. or an intruder? Can you really give up the chance to make a difference, to achieve your full potential and belong to something larger? I think you are so much more than that Hope, and I beleive you will surmount your trepidation and grasp this opportunity. I have Faith in you Hope Zagorski!"
