>"So .." Mitsuko asked. "I have never been to a party. Is there anything I should know?"

Mara hears the woman and raises an eyebrow.  Never been to a party at all?  What a sheltered life she must have had.   

Without turning around, Mara continues to walk to her car, but still answers the question.  "Well, you should know that there are many different types of parties.  This one we're going to, some would consider the worst of the worst.   You go to see and be seen, in an attempt to win friends and influence people.  I suggest both of you be on your very best behavior.   You are both welcome to follow my lead, and I'll try to give you some pointers on the art of working a room and how to behave at a party like this."
