Temple of the Five Doodahs
Mitsuko, Monks, Mara, Aurora, Jack, Christine
> [Mara]
> Mara shrugs, still keeping her temper, her beast, under wraps
> tighter than
> the black dress she was wearing. "As you wish." Mara's tone is
> clipped and harsh to Christine's ears, and Christine can tell that
> Mara is annoyed, despite her seeming concession.
> [Mitsuko]
> "Maybe we should all go!" Mitsuko added hurriedly. "I think the
> monks would prefer it that way!"
>
> [Mara]
> "Okay, so there's one more vote to leave." Mara replies. She
> turns her attention to Aurora, who seemed tired from whatever she'd
> just done. "So, Aurora, you ready?" She does not even look at
> Christine.
>
> Mara smiles at Aurora. "So I have my answer." She replies.
> "Ladies, hopefully, my car is still parked where I left it." Mara
> offers jokingly. On the other hand, Mara muses, this was Chinatown.
> [Aurora]
> She rose, brushing herself off as best she could, fortunately the
> monks kept the temple, even the floors, nice and pristine.
> [Mara]
> Mara watches Aurora brush herself off, visibly wincing as she does
> so. Such abuse was not proper for a lovely vintage gown like that,
> and she hoped that the gown wasn't hurt. She doesn't notice any
> beads falling onto the floor though.
>
> With that, Mara starts to walk back toward the temple entrance, not
> waiting for the ladies. They were either coming, or they weren't.
> In the end, she didn't care either way, for she had lost this
> battle. She pauses, and steals one last sad-eyed glance at
> Christine in her dragonfly ensemble, then walks away as quickly as
> she could without relying on the crutch of Celerity.
> [Aurora]
> "Be sure to meet us there if you can," Aurora smiles at Christine as
> she follows Mara out. "I feel like a fish out of water..."
[Christine]
Christine manages a smile in return.
"Sure," she says to Aurora. "Count on it."
Christine can hardly bear to look at Mara without feeling hollow;
sick with emptiness. She is scoured by the effort of will it takes to
stand against Mara's wishes, not to cave reluctantly and resentfully
comply - after at least a token fight, of course. Until very
recently, Mara filled the void at the centre of Christine's life and
for two years she defined Christine's very existence. However much
she may have kicked and fought against the inherent subservience of
it, for Christine, the role of professional assistant/ghoul/mortal
lover to a vampire mistress has offered enormous solace, release from
any and all autonomy. But, that can no longer be. Christine can
scrabble for excuses as much as she likes but lightning struck
through her soul, unsealed her eyes and she cannot find any more
reasons not to be free. She can not avoid being responsible. She can
no longer belong to Mara. She has to find a way to belong, if not to
herself, then to Fate. It is going to be hard.
Her eyes close briefly, brow creased. *Need a drink*
When her eyes open, the deck has been shuffled. Mara has already
left, Aurora and Mitsuko in her wake. The monks busy themselves by
moving Jack - inactive if not actually unconscious - to a more
convenient place to recuperate. Christine finds herself alone. She
turns on her heel, retreats to her room where she has a tiny stash of
medicinal vodka, all that's left over from last night's headlong dive
into oblivion.
TBC in a jp soon :-)
