Jack, Aurora, Christine, Mara, Mitsuko
Temple of the Five Dragons
> [Jack]
> His eyes open slowly and world comes back into focus.
> The first thing he sees is Aurora’s face and, through
> parched lips and with cracked voice, Jack smiles
> faintly and whispers, “Thank you.”
>
> He turns his head to see Christine, adding with a hint
> of arched brow, “I don’t think I’ll be croaking today,
> miss.”
[Christine]
"Christine," corrects Christine, smiling faintly. It's weird hearing
his voice out loud. Weirdly familiar.
> Another pause. There is a wealth of barely suppressed
> emotion and a bit of dampness in his eyes (which he
> will later swear was due to extreme fatigue and stress
> of a near-death experience), as Jack’s gaze meets
> Christine’s.
>
> “Thanks for saving me.”
[Christine]
Jack's eyes are unexpectedly, vividly, blue; eyes to fall and drown
in. An eon compresses into one single, space between breaths before
Christine drags her gaze away. Oh dear. No complications, here. Please.
"No problem," she mutters staring at the floor. "Aurora saved you."
> [Mara]
> As Christine turns to look at her, Mara folds her arms, offering a
> not so subtle signal that her supply of patience was starting to
> run out. She looks at her watch. Five minutes, and she would be
> out the door, with or without companions.
>
> Mara speaks before Aurora does. "Well, I can't speak for Aurora or
> Mitsuko, but my plan is that I'm leaving here in five minutes."
> Her tone is matter of fact, the flat neutrality of it hiding her
> growing impatience.
[Christine]
Need a drink, thinks Christine, with increasing urgency.
"I'm not ready to go yet," she says. It comes out flatly and that
isn't really the way Christine feels, not the way she wants it, but
explanations are pointless. Mostly because Christine isn't sure what
the hell she's doing any more or why. But she really wants to talk to
Jack. Really needs to hear as much of his story as he is able or
willing to tell. Right now, with her life in freefall, she is
following the impulses of the moment. Hoping they will end up making
sense somewhen soon.
