Mike's Place - Friday Morning - early
John unlocked the door to his apartment and
immediately tripped over the Mastif Mike.
"Goddamnit!!!!"
The dog raised his head and gave his "owner" a "What
the hell are you doing?" look. Reluctantly, he stood
up, making a great show of stretching, and then went
ahead upstairs where he jumped onto John's bed, making
sure to take up 2/3rds of it, and went back to sleep.
John silently cursed as he massaged his sore knee a
moment before heading upstairs himself. He passed
through the small kitchen to set up the coffee pot for
the morning when he saw, sitting on the table, a small
box.
It was wooden and looked hand made. There were no
carvings, scratches, or any sort of decoration at all.
He opened it a saw an antique key on a silver chain
sitting on top of a piece of paper.
He pulled the amulet out and admired the craftmanship.
It looked old, but in truth it was recently made.
Carved on the metal, barely perceptable, was latin.
Obviously made for him.
John opened the paper. On it was the name of a bar
(The Silver Dragon), a city (Tokyo), and a time
(Friday @ 1 pm). John looked at his watch, it was
just after 5.
He couldn't believe this. John glanced at the key
again. Using the amulet he'd be able to gain access
to the King's Highway. It would take about an hour to
reach Tokyo from Gotham, but it was a pain in the ass.
His entire day was pretty much shot.
"Shit." He grabbed a sheet of paper and jotted down a
note for Tommy and then went downstair to leave it on
the cash register. A he passed through the backroom
he saw several of the treasures of Kahn Akril stacked
neatly in a corner. He added a warning to wait to
inventory the material until he got back.
Leaving the note on the register, John went back up
for a few hours of sleep. He'd leave for Japan in a
little bit, and maybe pick up some supplies for the
shop while there.
