"Now that our plans for tomorrow are settled, it's time to discuss the long term." Hope takes another sip of the beer, wincing at the taste of it. "Personally, I'd be fine with whatever driving arrangements you want. But we need to talk about your girlfriend. I have a feeling she don't like me much, and that doesn't make for a good partnership." She had a hunch that Sue Lei probably wasn't too happy about Brannigan taking off for a late night meeting with her. She knew how that could look, no matter how innocent it really was. "Either you come with me for a heart to heart with her, or you tell her that I'm seeing someone." It was a lie, but one that seemed to work pretty well at putting a jealous wife or girlfriend at ease. The heart to heart was a bit more of a gamble. 

"Girlfriend is maybe a little too strong a word!" Cody blanches. "We are not exactly dating. At least not that she has informed me of. There's something there but .... there are obsticles too. Her brother was my partner when I was a rookie. Cheung Lie, killed by Khan Akril right in front of me. We got to a lot of places together but I am not entirely sure it is right for us to go any further given the circumstances."

He risks more beer.

"But that wasn't what you were driving at I guess. I'll try and organise a get togetehr to smotth everything over. Even if she is just a friend, she is about the only stable person in my life and I'd rather she got along with you if we are going to make this partnership work."
