John, Abby
Beneath Mike's Place

Abby was still in bed, but John had risen and was looking through a box sitting on a nearby shelf. "I think we need something special to end the night. Ever been to France? Paris is a dirty city, but I know of a good place for food and drink. We can be there and back in a few hours."

He raised a small amulet out of the box, a wooden key with Latin carved into it. He smiled and turned to the woman before him. "Interested?"

The Bastet girl stretches languidly, taut muscles jumping into relief beneath pale skin.

"Paris you say? Sounds lovely John Black, but I've no Passport."
No legal ID either, the Joys of bein' on the Run.

John smiled. "You know what hyperspace is, right? Science fiction, allows a person to travel from point A to point B faster than normally possible." He held up the amulet. "This allows us to do something similar. We'll walk to Paris along the King's Highway. No tickets needed. No passports necessary. We'll simply step into one mirror and out the other."

He smiled wickedly. "Unless there's someplace else you'd like to go. Anywhere in the world. Just name it."

She chuckles deep in her throat, almost as deep as the purring, the pale jade green of her eyes sparkling as she stares into his.
"Never been to Paris before, d'you think I'd like it?"

"I hope so. We'll leave as soon as your dressed."

John went and collected a few more items: an amulet or two, some money (francs, of course), as well a a knife hidden in a sheath between his shoulder blades.

When she was ready, he lead her to a full length mirror nearby. Lifting the amulet, he began whispering in LAtin, and after a few moments, the glass turned to quicksilver.

"Shall we?" Hold her hand, he stepped through the mirror.

Wonder if it'll be like that TV Show about Gates and Stars...I HATE fallin'....
Abby held her breath as she stepped through.

The trip took about an hour. The journey on the King's Highway had been surreal. A long road made of brick that cut its way through a country side that looked familiar but felt alien. Everything seemed more alive and more real. The sky was a deep blue, the grass on either side a luch green, and the birds were of every conceivable color.

John explained that he didn't know where the road came from, or who built it, but he first became aware of it's existence around 1500. "It will take a traveller anywhere in the world. If one were to find the right path, it might take you beyond, into the realms of angels and demons, fairies and unknown."

Now they were in Paris, sitting outisde, enjoying some wine and the view of the Eiffle Tower. "What do you think?"
