"Oh I should say so, yes!" Fresserei replied. But Bradley detected a hint of ignorance from the man. He was covering a lack of knowledge. Bradley smiled, watching Fresserei make the same mistake he saw dozens of people make every day, flailing for an answer to try and save face before knowing what the answer should be. "Red carpets and celebrities are the bread and butter of such departments of course. Especially as we cannot pry into the A lists who attend Madam Sinclair’s private parties!”

Bradley’s smile became wider as Fresserei dug his hole that much deeper. He just inadvertently committed his company to giving a healthy dose of positive press to the largest contributor (which would be Buford’s half million, if he read the reactions of Gotham’s movers and shakers correctly) and guaranteeing Gotham Memorial several million dollars in donations, as no one in Lady Sinclair’s little circle would be so gauche as to give less than half of what the biggest spender would donate, at least not when the press could pick it up. It was nice to know that some good came out of his cut-throat gamble on Fresserei’s personalitiy and the unspoken rules of high society.

"Well, not every celebrity is hungry for life in the fish bowl you know!" Lady Marguerite replied jovially. "Are you interested in the Arts, Mr. Bradley?"

Bradley covered Lady Sinclair’s hand on his arm with his own. “My wife was the one who loved the opera, ballet, and Pollak. I liked the costumes and enjoyed the Vita Nuova, but I never managed to wrap my head around the idea of why shopping cart wheels dipped in paint and rolled across a canvas meant anger or sadness.” His eyes unfocused for an instant, watching the memories of his late wife before snapping back into the present. “Of course, I still take my girls when something that their mother liked catches my eye, but I’m afraid the deeper meaning of it all is lost on me.”
