Carthephius seemed about to say something profound but
caught himself. He smiled at Abby's excellent choice
of words and took a sip of his beer to help slip back
into character.
"I once came across a set of tarot cards, very old.
Instead of the traditional four suits one would expect
to find, this one had five: Rose for passion, Eyes for
mind, Moons for dreams, Hourglass for time and space,
and Skulls for death. It was a one of a kind set, and
I've always been fascinated of how those suits seem to
so accurately describe almost all of the people I've
ever encountered."
John glanced around at his fellow guests. "We are who
we are, and to behave otherwise would be to invite
tragedy."
