John smiled, and his arm almost unconsciously came up
to the small of Abby's back, drawing her in slightly
closer. He didn't seem aware of the movemtn until
after he had done it.

"We're all full of surprises. A good soldier is one
who is also a scholar. I'm not talking about a
warrior-scholar of old, though I do have great respect
for such individuals, but it's important to realize
that war is a means to an end. It is not an end, in
and of itself. If we lose ourselves in such pursuits,
the victory is hollow."

He looked at the gentlemen Morgan had indicated. "Do
you think they realize that? Do the fight on their
battle field for a cause, or is the battle the actual
cause."

He turns to address Abby. "You're an excellent
watcher. What do you think of the "businessmen" we've
seen and met this evening."
