He
Somewhere else

He was floating formless and without substance in an endless void.
Nothing seemed to be or exist around him. His awareness just took in a
grey nothingness extending all around him. The only hint that he existed
were his thoughts. He still was aware of being in a certain point in
space, although the space itself looked rather bland. He wondered
briefly how he could 'see' without 'eyes' and then thought about the
meaning of the word 'eyes'. He dimly remembered that he once knew what
'eyes' were. He also could not remember who he was, he just knew that he
existed. And he had a distinct concept of himself as 'He' in his mind.
He knew that he was not she. And he understood that this once was quite
significant. He did not remember why and how.
He suddenly became aware that something else was there beside him in
this void. Like a tickle in the back of his mind he knew something was
there. Then he saw it. In the distance something that must be an
enormous shape when seen up close, came into his view. It was a serpent,
rolling sinuously and lazy through the void. As the serpent got bigger,
he realised that it caused the void to become denser. He felt a pressure
building around him. The shape was gigantic and came ever closer.
Rainbow lights twirled and danced around it. Panic rose up inside him,
as he realised that not only the serpent floated nearer, but that he was
floating nearer to it, as if he was pulled in by the serpent's gravity.
And grave it was, as the void seemed to coalesce around him and it
became harder for him to think. He knew that if he should be sucked to
or into the Serpent, he would cease to exist. At least as a
self-thinking and self-aware entity. His soul, if indeed this was what
he was, would join the Serpent, merge with it, and become one with it.
He tried to struggle against the pull, but as his mind screamed out and
tried to move away from the inevitable, he realised it was useless.
Suddenly, the serpent swerved around, away from him. It slowly grew
smaller and the density and the pull lessened. But something had
detached from it and it streaked towards him. A smaller version of the
Serpent flew like an arrow through the void and he was its target. He
looked numbly on as the small serpent, not larger than his outstretched
arm (What is an arm, he thought frantically), reached him, pushed into
him and then the world exploded in pain.

In a different perception a painful scream echoed through a chamber and
strange organic ripping noises could be heard. A blubbering, organic and
flowing sound saturated the chamber. The whines and sobs that had been a
constant rhythm in it were silenced in shock. Then screams of panic and
fright arose and then changed into screams of pain that slowly subsided
into gurgles and then silence.
