In fact, Christine understands a whole lot about newly gained
abilities you can't always control and she understands desire. Only
too well. She also understands that Mara is exerting considerable
control over her own fierce temper. God knows, they have quarrelled
often enough over the last 2 years to have each other's measure.
'House on fire' - it's a perfect description for how Mara and
Christine get along. Hot, dangerous and doomed to disaster. Christine
laughs reluctantly and her knotted, angular stance relaxes.

"Yeah. And I'm sure you'll do it with style. You look great, by the
way." Christine's gaze flickers quickly away from Mara. Change the
subject, Christine.

Christine does remember meeting Lady Sinclair a few nights ago when
the invitation had been issued. Originally, it had included Christine
but that was before; when she had been an essential part of Mara's
professional retinue. *All* of her retinue, actually. Christine
suddenly wonders who Mara is taking as her escort to the party. While
quite capable of arriving at a party alone, Mara usually observes
formal social conventions - all the while it suits her to, anyway.

"Who are you going with?"

As soon as the question is out, Christine recognises that it isn't
any of her damn business. She flashes a wicked grin at her former
employer/lover/domitor. "Or are you going to take the Fifth on that?"

It's in her kiss
As black as sea
And it runs deeper than you
Ever dared TAG it could be
