Mara Christine
(Joint Post)
Mara wakes to greet the sunset with Christine's image in her mind and her name still on her lips.
So much to do, so very little time. While waiting for the furniture delivery, she decides to dress for Sinclair's party, putting on a dress she had bought Nordy's about 30 minutes before the store closed last night. Thank goodness for their personal shopper service, the woman had had ten dresses in her size, and all she had to do was try each one on, finally opting for a very stylish form fitting black gown with a cascading swirl of black sequins, sheer mesh insets and tiny spaghetti straps. S he could have worn the halter dress she'd worn to the Harlequin's the night before, but it was a major faux pas to appear at a gathering of this nature wearing something the host had seen you wearing previously.
The furniture was delivered precisely on time, and Mara simply had them bring it into the empty office. She could place the things later, after she got back from the party.
As Mara finishes putting on her makeup and jewelry, there is a second knock on the door. Mara frowns. She wasn't expecting anyone else. Could it be Mr. Wolf, paying her an early evening visit? She opens the inner door, but leaves the new security door still closed, allowing her to view her visitor in relative safety.
As Mara silently approaches the knocking suddenly becomes hammering with a kick thrown in for good measure. Mara stills in surprise and she listens as her unexpected visitor's string of curses reaches a violent crescendo.
"Mara, open the *fucking* door!"
It's Christine.
Christine's tantrum does not surprise Mara. No, what surprises her is that her former 'assistant' was even here at all. "Christine!" Mara exclaims, her normally bland demeanor disrupted by the sudden appearance of her lover. "What are you doing here?"
Even so, Mara opens the door to allow her to come in, keeping her eyes on the woman. Once she enters, Mara will close it, leaning her back against the door, blocking the redhead's exit for a moment. She wasn't ready to have her leave yet, not after she'd just arrived.
Christine enters the office and after one silent, wide-eyed stare at Mara she fidgets hesitantly around the place, avoiding Mara's gaze. She seems restive and spooked and unsure of herself beneath her scowl.
"What am I doing here?" she repeats sullenly. "I don't know. I just had to come. I was hoping you could tell me why."
Mara studies Christine. She didn't know, but she had to come. Oh yes, indeed, that sounded familiar. Too familiar.
Christine glares at Mara but Mara knows Christine. This time the temper masks sharp anxiety. Christine's pacing and nervousness make her seems almost feral tonight.
Resplendent in her finery for the party, Mara studies Christine. She was pacing like a caged beast, as though she, like her, was struggling to control some Beast within.
"What kind of fucking game is this now, Mara?" Christine demands. "What are you doing to me?"
Game? It wasn't a game. Mara frowns. She had a very good idea of what had happened. Christine had been Summoned. But...that meant...could she have done it? She couldn't think of anyone else with the ability in the city, and none of the Kindred in the city knew about Christine.
"I'm sorry, Christine." Mara offers. "I think I called you here." Her tone is tentative, rather unlike her. "Remember those nights when I'd suddenly get up and leave with little to no word? It's because I was called away by one of my kind. I guess I now have the ability to do it."
She offers a shrug, there was nothing else that she could say or do at this point.
