John nodded. The pieces were almost twice as old as
he was, which should have been a humbling experience.
Truth was that years were a lot like money; when you
accumulated enough they just didn't matter anymore.
Still, someone had taken the time to actually create
the items. "Can't help wondering about the owner, who
he was. Not his title or duties, but what was he
like. Generous? Greedy? Was he married?" He
shrugged.
"Fun is in the details."
Hiram gave a wry grin.
"Well, if you were to hear them tell it," he said, "they belonged to Bast
herself, and the priesthood that kept her temple. Known as a capricious
deity, her favors were lavish, but her wrath was legendary." He looked back
to the tablets. "That could be the reason why this temple was found so
intact by comparison to others, superstition can even outlast an entire
society after all..."
"Dr. Lazarus?" a young voice interrupted
Hiram turned around seeing a teenage boy holding a gold leaf decorated
envelope out to him.
"You're invited to a gathering at Lady Sinclair's mansion this evening."
Hiram took a deep sigh.
"Thank you," he said taking the invitation from the boy's hand, "send Lady
Sinclair my regards."
The boy nodded, then promptly left, obviously with more invitations to deliver.
Another rich socialite who want prominent people at he party so the people
of the city can oggle, Hiram thought. But, at least it could be a way to
wrangle more funding...
He turned back to John.
"Can I show you anything else?"
(Any way you TAG it, that's the way you need it....)
