are the most noble lineage of Wallachia and its daughters have shaped the
history of many European countries under our tutelage. My sire was always
focussed on his mortal family, on the crimson river. The house of Dusk, the
merchants holding that our vast empire grew out of, was invested with the
financing of his family."

Mara listens.  Her mother had shared much the same philosophy, which is why she'd learned it.  So the Basarabs were noble?  She couldn't say she'd ever heard of them, but then again, she never was much for geneaology.     

"Dabbling and interfering" Christophe sighs. "the last resort of the bored
Vampire. That and politics of course. But that was more my line, as Zoë was
born without the necessary endowments to become a Knight and a Boyer, and
was already dead by the time the great scheme was hatched, so she was left
to hide in a variety of Castle library's and such. Amazing brain, absolutely
no fun at party's."

Mara offers Christophe a brief look.  One that said she didn't entirely approve of him dissing his sister in that manner.  

"And so .." Zoë allowed a little smile "there you have it. The devoted
children of the House of Dusk, last remnants of the Order of the Dragon.
We've been fighting the creatures behind Melcom for centuries. Watching
those they manipulate, helping some, destroying others. Which brings us to
you Mara."

Mara smiles at them, her true emotions hidden behind the veil.  Did they plan to destroy her?  Was this really just a ploy on their part?   The grant money was very very real.  "And I'm guessing that I fall into the helping some?"  She hoped she was right.   She crosses her legs, and moves the raised foot in lazy circles.  
"Oh, and would you be interested in having access to a current employee of Melcom?"  

A small peace offering, but maybe it would be enough.
