"I've had a lot of practice John." the demure blonde
replied as her face lit up with a smile. The private
joke between the two of them lifting her spirits. "But
then I don't think Mike would feel at home here, he
prefers the .. comfortable repose!"
"Perhaps. But he's become quite the character amongst
my clients. Many of them, when they come into the
shop for supplies, find it a challenge of the their
occult skills to avoid my partner."
John smiled and sat back, taking the beers from the
waitress when she returned. The music was good, and
he felt the melodies wash over him bringing back old
memories of him and Babe and the trouble they got into
not too long ago (as their kind remembered it).
"Last time we were together, you almost got me
killed." He pointed at Babe accusingly, but it was
all in good fun. "You managed to get the second most
powerful man in Chicago to fall in love with you. We
were having such a good time to: parties at speak
easies, take out the bad guys, party a little more.
It was a lot of fun. I wish you could have at least
warned me that Frank Nitti was the jealous type. I
nearly ended up at the bottom of Lake Michigan."
Actually, there was no almost about it. John had been
caught off guard by a few mobsters, had his feet
encased in concrete, and was then dumped overboard.
It had taken Babe almost a year to find his khat. The
inconvenience of the situation had really pissed her
off at the time.

Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died. -- Stephen Wright
