[Sodium_noir] Killing Time at Harlequins

As the group settled into the booth and made their introductions, the band started up again and the light dimmed. The tune, for those who recognised it, was classic Cole Porter. The Voice arrived on stage before the singer and her painfully tortured tones wrung every last ounce from the words. Changing them from an upbeat number to a dirge or an Aria of sweet melancholy.

When the little bluebird 
Who has never said a word 
Starts to sing Spring

Tawney, the renowned songbird of Club Harlequin stepped into the blue light of the spotlight to a round of applause. Her make up was more severe than was usual for her, the sophisticated lady replaced by a more modern look. 

When the little bluebell 
At the bottom of the dell 
Starts to ring Ding dong Ding dong 



When the little blue clerk 
In the middle of his work 
Starts a tune to the moon up above 
It is nature that is all 
Simply telling us to fall in love

"I've had a lot of practice John." the demure blonde replied as her face lit up with a smile. The private joke between the two of them lifting her spirits. "But then I don't think Mike would feel at home here, he prefers the .. comfortable repose!"

Cold Cape Cod clams, 'gainst their wish, do it 
Even lazy jellyfish do it 
Let's do it, let's fall in loooooooove
