One of the hoods had started to advance on them, but his partner caught his arm and once Hope spoke, they both thought better of it and fled in the opposite direction. The Thug in the garbage groaned and caused Malone to look around. 

"If you're gonna run, you better do it now" he said in a simple monotone. The guy didn't think twice before dragging himself up and limping off after his friends. 

>The Vic grunted once and tried to stand up. Kid, and he was a kid, had guts at least. But >he didn't have his legs and he slumped down again.

Hope watches the thugs leave, having already commited their faces to her memory.  As a civilian, she was not under any restriction on pursuing them, but she could easily pick them out of a line up, and the vic was beat pretty bad.  

She goes to check out the vic.  A small oriental man.  She bends over him, checking for a pulse.  Assessing the extent of his injuries.  She looks around.  When the hell was EMS going to get here?
